One of the most talented guitarists of his generation, Australian born Rupert Boyd has performed throughout the United States, Spain, Italy, France and Australia, and among numerous prizes is the recipient of the Andrés Segovia Award from the Manhattan School of Music.

Rupert Boyd has performed at some of New York’s most prestigious classical music venues, including The 92nd Street Y, Bargemusic, The New York City Classical Guitar Society and given performances with The New York Festival of Song and Moving Theater Dance Company. In addition to winning the Andrés Segovia award from the Manhattan School of Music, Rupert Boyd was a winner of the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition and winner of the Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, which resulted in a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with orchestra, conducted by Lawrence Leighton Smith.
With a strong interest in chamber music, Rupert Boyd formed the Australian Guitar Duo with guitarist Jacob Cordover. An international concert tour in 2008 included performances at Festival de Musique Classique in France, Project Cancion Española in Granada and concerts in Barcelona and Australia. The Duo has performed at the New York City Guitar Duo festival, was a prize winner of the Chamber Music section of the Australian Guitar Competition and had a recital broadcast on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s Classic FM ‘Young Australia Series’.
Rupert Boyd’s debut solo recording Valses Poéticos was released in June 2008. A review in the UK based magazine Classical Guitar, described the CD as follows: “The performances that Boyd gives here are first-rate . . . Altogether this is a fine CD from a player who deserves to be heard.” The CD has been frequently broadcast on Australia’s most regarded classical music station ABC Classic FM, as well radio stations throughout the United States.
Rupert Boyd holds a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) degree from the Australian National University School of Music, a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music and an Artist Diploma degree from the Yale University School of Music. His major teachers have been Timothy Kain, David Leisner and Ben Verdery. Rupert Boyd has also performed in public masterclasses for Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Eliot Fisk, David Russell, Maximo Diego Pujol, Sharon Isbin, Remi Boucher and Pavel Steidl.
