Rodrigo concertos feature in 2026 Michele Pittaluga final

September 7, 2026 by CGR Leave a Comment

The 58th Michele Pittaluga International Guitar Competition takes place in Alessandria, Italy, from 21–26 September 2026, with an orchestral final built around two works by Joaquín Rodrigo.

Finalists will choose between Concierto de Aranjuez and Fantasía para un gentilhombre. They will perform with I Musici di Parma, conducted by Gianpaolo Bandini, at the Teatro Alessandrino on Saturday 26 September at 9pm local time.

Rodrigo also features in the solo rounds: the semi-final programme must include Preludio al atardecer. The opening round requires Mertz’s Tarantella alongside the competitors’ own repertoire choices.

All three rounds are open to the public. Entries closed on 31 August, so this is now an opportunity for listeners to follow the competition rather than a call for applications.

The organiser has posted the 2026 programme and competition rules. Consult those sources for the full schedule and any changes before attending.
