Yamandu Costa: PGF Documentary

The Paris Guitar Foundation just released a beautiful short feature documentary on Yamandu Costa, Brazilian guitarist and composer. Yamandu has some really intriguing things to say about the way that music stands “above” the “distinctions and separations” between classical and popular music. Yamandu truly bridges those divides in a most creative way.

Along with some amazing improvisations on Brazilian themes and rhythms, he plays here a bit from his “Concerto de Fronteira” for guitar and orchestra and the first and third movements of Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” (the incomparable Alondra de la Parra at the baton with the Philharmonie de Paris).
