THE PEOPLE AND PURPOSE BEHIND THE MAGAZINE
A life with the classical guitar reaches beyond the practice room. Classical Guitar Review helps you discover the music, people and opportunities that make that life richer.
Led by Dr. Simon Powis, the site brings together news, selected performances, podcasts, concerts, festivals and competitions for professional guitarists, teachers, dedicated amateurs and aspiring young professionals.

What you will find here
Our aim is to help you find something worth hearing, reading or taking part in: a performance that changes how you hear a piece, a conversation that gives you a fresh perspective, or a festival that brings you into contact with other musicians.
- News and perspectives: developments and stories from across the classical guitar world.
- Watch and listen: selected performances and recent episodes from a range of classical guitar podcasts.
- Events and festivals: clear dates, locations and links to help you plan, with a searchable festival and competition directory.
How we choose and check material
We look for musical substance. Performance selections prioritise artistry, interpretation and sound and picture quality, featuring established international musicians alongside exceptional emerging talent. We draw from artists, festivals, independent publishers and established recording channels.
Event information is checked against organisers’ published details where available. We distinguish confirmed dates from past editions and dates awaiting announcement. Programmes, deadlines and venues can change, so readers should confirm details with the organiser before applying or booking.
Podcast episodes link to their original publishers. Inclusion is an invitation to explore, not an endorsement of every opinion expressed. Reader submissions are reviewed before publication; submission does not guarantee coverage.
Connections and transparency
Simon also leads Classical Guitar Corner, whose podcast is included in our listening feed alongside other publishers. We make that connection explicit so readers can understand the relationship. Our aim is to serve the wider classical guitar community, with a range of artists, organisations and perspectives represented.
Sponsored coverage and commercial relationships relevant to an article should be clearly identified. Historical articles retain their publication dates and may reflect earlier editorial contributors.
