The Mozarteum International Guitar Festival takes place in Salzburg on 3–5 December 2026. The university’s announced programme includes Lorenzo Micheli, a discussion of guitar pedagogy, student ensembles, composition workshops and the final of its international guitar competition.
A competition built around a programme
Applicants must submit a conceptual explanation of their repertoire in English or German. The online preliminary round requires a 15–20-minute video, with submissions due by 15 October. Up to five finalists will perform live in the Solitär on 5 December.
The final programme must include a composition written after 1970. A separate “Women’s Voices” prize recognises the interpretation of a work by a woman composer; including such a work is not compulsory. Eligibility is limited to musicians born on or after 5 December 1996.
The published application deadline for masterclasses and guitar makers was 15 September, so those opportunities should not be assumed still available.
