Baltimore announces more than $60,000 in prizes for its 2027 guitar competition

September 14, 2026 by CGR

Baltimore Classical Guitar Society has announced a prize fund exceeding $60,000 for the 2027 Baltimore International Guitar Competition. The competition, under artistic director Manuel Barrueco, is scheduled for 21–26 September 2027, with applications due by 10 July.

First prize is $35,000, including a $15,000 Augustine Career Cash Award. The announced second and third prizes are $15,000 and $7,500; an audience award is also offered. The winner will be invited to the society’s 2028–29 International Concert Series.

Planning an application

The organisers say accommodation will be provided for competitors reaching the semifinal and final rounds. Their website also explains the competition’s blind-judging arrangements and provides rules, repertoire information and application materials.

For aspiring professionals, the long lead time is useful: start with the official repertoire requirements and map out preparation before committing to an entry. Check the complete rules for eligibility and application conditions rather than relying on prize announcements alone.
